This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar technologies are used on artevivomagazine.com, what each of them does, how long it lasts, and how you can control them. It forms part of our Privacy Policy and should be read with it.
It is written to comply with Article 5(3) of Directive 2002/58/EC (the ePrivacy Directive) as implemented in Italy by Article 122 of Legislative Decree No. 196/2003, and with the Guidelines on cookies and other tracking tools adopted by the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali on 10 June 2021.
1. What a cookie is
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device and to send back on subsequent requests. Cookies let a site recognise that a request comes from the same browser as an earlier one. Related technologies do the same job by different means: local storage and session storage keep data in the browser rather than sending it with each request; pixels or web beacons are tiny image requests whose only purpose is to record that a page was loaded; fingerprinting infers an identifier from the combination of a device’s characteristics. Everything said in this policy about cookies applies equally to these techniques.
Cookies are described as first-party when set by the site you are visiting, and third-party when set by another domain whose content the page loads. They are session cookies when deleted as soon as you close the browser, and persistent when they survive until an expiry date or until you delete them.
2. The two categories that matter legally
Under Italian and EU law the distinction that governs everything else is this:
- Technical (strictly necessary) cookies may be set without your consent, because the site cannot provide the service you have asked for without them. You are entitled to be told about them, which is what this page does. Analytics may fall into this category only where it is genuinely first-party, the IP address is truncated so that identification is not possible, and no data is combined with other processing or passed to a third party for its own purposes.
- Profiling, advertising and non-exempt analytics cookies require your prior, specific, informed and freely given consent, expressed by an affirmative action. Continuing to scroll is not consent. Closing a banner without choosing is not consent. Pre-ticked boxes are not consent. Refusing must be as easy as accepting, and consent must be withdrawable at any time, as easily as it was given.

3.2 Analytics, advertising and profiling
At the date of this policy, artevivomagazine.com does not run advertising cookies, profiling cookies, social media tracking pixels or cross-site trackers, and does not participate in any real-time bidding or advertising identifier framework.
Should we introduce audience measurement or advertising, no such script will load before you have given consent through the banner. This page will be updated first, naming the provider, the specific cookies, their duration, the country in which the provider processes the data and the transfer safeguard relied upon, and the banner will offer separate controls for each purpose with a refusal option as prominent as the acceptance option.
3.3 Embedded third-party content
Articles occasionally embed content hosted elsewhere, such as a video player or an interactive map. An embed behaves as though you had visited that third party’s own website: it can set its own cookies, read them, and record your interaction with the embedded element, entirely outside our control.
Where such an embed is not strictly necessary, we block it until you consent, and show a placeholder naming the provider in its place. Where you consent, the provider’s own privacy and cookie policies apply to what it then does.
4. Managing your choices
4.1 On this site
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time by clearing the artevivo_cookie_consent cookie in your browser, which causes the banner to be shown again on your next visit, or by writing to [email protected]. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
4.2 In your browser
Every major browser lets you see the cookies stored, delete them individually or in bulk, block third-party cookies, and block all cookies. The controls are usually found under Settings, then Privacy and security. Blocking all cookies will prevent parts of most websites from working, including the login on this one, though it will not prevent you from reading our articles.
Browsers also offer a private or incognito mode, in which cookies are discarded when the window closes. Several browsers now block third-party cookies by default, and some offer additional anti-fingerprinting protections.
4.3 Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Some browsers transmit a Do Not Track header or a Global Privacy Control signal. There is no settled legal standard requiring publishers to honour Do Not Track, and it is widely ignored across the web. Because this site sets no advertising or profiling cookies, the practical effect for you is the same: nothing is tracked either way.
5. What happens if you refuse
Nothing is withheld. Refusing non-essential cookies does not restrict your access to any article, does not reduce the quality of what you can read, and does not trigger a paywall or a nag screen. There is no “cookie wall” on this site.
6. Cookies set by our hosting provider
Our hosting infrastructure may set strictly technical cookies for load balancing, caching and protection against automated attack. These carry no identifier that we can associate with you as an individual, and they exist solely to keep the site available and secure. Their use is covered by the technical exemption in Article 122 of the Italian Privacy Code.
7. Changes
Cookies change when a site’s tooling changes. We review this page whenever we add or remove a component that could set one, and at least once a year in any event. The version number and date at the top of this page are updated on every change, and where a change introduces a purpose requiring consent, consent will be sought again before that purpose is activated.
